Stunning Byron Bay has a special Hippie ambience and it has a reputation for being expensive, but it's such a must place to visit for its ambience both in natural beauty and entertainment. Hence camping is not cheap. Near the beach expect to pay $65+ for a powered site. We chose unpowered and a bit behind the beach for $35 ! The walks along the coast line to the light house are breathtaking and you can go up to the top of the lighthouse on a volunteer guided tour for free. Best not take the car up, there is limited metered space. The time limit at the very top is one hour, further down 2 hours and in the valley parking is longer (4h?) but metered as well.
1- To visit the Lighthouse, take the stunning walk from the township rather than driving up. You won't be hemmed in by the tight parking time restrictions at the top. Park unlimited for free in Massinger Street next to the entry of Reflections Holiday Park (1 Lighthouse Road) at the outskirts of Byron Bay.
