Byron Bay has a special Hippie ambience and camping is not cheap. Near the beach expect to pay $65 plus for a powered site. We chose unpowered a bit behind the beach for $35 ! The walks along the coast line to the light house are breathtaking and you can go up to the top of the lighthouse on a volunteer guided tour for free. Best not take the car up, there is limited metered space. The time limit at the very top is one hour, further down 2 hours and in the valley parking is longer (4h?) but metered as well, unless you proceed to a side road at the outskirts where it’s free and unlimited.
