Safe Amalgam Myth
Modern amalgams are deemed to be safe, but are not. Holistic and natural websites are labelled unscientific. Why ? Commercial bias and legal exposure. Google it or you may be in serious trouble like me. The anti amalgam camp is strong and has very good arguments.
Nowadays in 2015 the trend goes clearly against the future of mercury based amalgams ! Even in 2015 Mercury dominates. 40 to 50 % of the weight of our fillings remains mercury.
The argument runs like this. Yes mercury is toxic and 1 to 4 grams can kill a person, but we can tolerate it when exposed to safe levels and hence there is no need to worry about amalgams.
The trouble is that dental amalgams often reach borderline and for some people labelled allergic or sensitive on plain out unsafe levels . Ironically pregnant women and young children are nowadays clearly categorized as sensitive and the use of amalgams is discouraged for these groups. It is a fact that amalgams leak mercury in significant measure. Two methods have been established to determine mercury leakage.
So if you have only one filling you may be safe. If you have one too many you will get poisoned and risk suffering from poor health. You may die earlier or if not risk dying with Alzheimer's.. Lesson learned STAY CLEAR OF AMALGAMS. One day it will be gone, just like Asbestos, but meanwhile the authorities will go slowly and softly because of the huge commercial impact of bold revisions.

OPINION
Yes unfortunately I believe that The ADA and the BDA hold tight to the view that amalgams do not constitute a health risk because otherwise they would be admitting liability for damaging people's health and that would then open the floodgates for endless lawsuits that would ruin the profession. They simply have no choice but to hold on to that position of denial. They don't cover up facts though, since all the incriminating studies are public domain information. Norway, Sweden and Germany banned mercury amalgams outright in 2008/9. As an R&D Scientist myself in the Pharma Industry, I wonder how the mercury that is destined for amalgam use is quality tested. It seems absurd that someone somewhere must test the mercury to make sure that it is of a certain quality but this is crazywhen it is a known poison! Until a few years ago I had 13 amalgam fillings which equates to about 13g of elemental mercury. This is not a trivial amount of the most poisonous metal known to man. I don't recall ever consenting to have this material implanted into my body. It makes me very angry especially when it is so difficult to remove without exposing yourself to even greater risk of high exposure.
